![]() ![]() ![]() Will the other gods do anything if they think Pharasma rules unfairly? Do they even question or look into her rulings? It seems Pharasma is the most responsible sure, but the other gods are using her oppression of all souls for their own gain, so they're still kinda responsible imo ![]() The other deities don't decide to punish you eternally for not believing in them lol She's the one who judges your soul and decides what happens with it. It's always mortals risking their lives to benefits the gods, with what I see as little comparative upside.Īh then you'll want to take that up with Pharasma. I get that as well, I'm just saying if I lived in their world, I'd be pretty angry that evil forces directly and proactively do shit all the time, but good forces always have some reason to not do anything. Their churches also usually care a whole lot about whether people respect their god and have varying amounts of power. If you aspire to a certain ideal, that is represented by a certain god, it makes a lot of sense that you would care what they think. I am also pretty new to pathfinder, so I'm legit asking, not trying to be the obnoxious redditor JuSt AsKiNg QuEstIoNsĪlso because a god is a paragon of and foundation for a set of beliefs that someone might aspire to. ![]() Like do what I say, I won't help you that much if at all, but if you don't listen to me I'll punish you for eternity. I mean that is fair, but also seems pretty evil for a "good" god to do. The demons get to yeet armies wherever and give whatever powers to whoever, whenever.īut yeah I'm sure babysitting every single one of your followers is a better use of time than keeping the evil deities at bay + keeping rovagug in check.īut I mean, what/how are they doing that? The world wound was created and has existed for a mintue on their watch.īecause the afterlife is real and they want to go there? Isn't that how that works with gods in Pathfinder or am I confusing that with some other property. The Herald brings like a handful of angles to help fight twice, then buffs you sometimes. Like, thanks, really feeling the loving, good, kind, light, whatever vibes from this cosmic sword of Damocles the gods decided to put above literally everyones head.Īnd the help they send is also pretty lame comparatively. The churches do a lot of good even if Desna (or any deity really) herself can't spare the time to babysit every single one of her followers and the gods still send down help in other forms even if it's not direct intervention.īut isn't that kind of messed up for a "good" god to do? Yeah, I'm going to create a bunch of abitray rules you HAVE to follow, I won't really help you with any of your problems, and if you break my rules, I'll see you punished for eternity. You want a nice afterlife, go be a good person who believes in a good deity. One of the perennial complaints about D&D is how it's all about killing people and taking their stuff, so why not start foregrounding alternatives like fast-talking your enemies? And, hey, if this makes some poor beleaguered writer start actually thinking about why the NPCs want to do violence to the PCs, well, I'm afraid we'll just have to suffer through the more thoughtful and nuanced writing.Yeah basically. It's a shift in play-style, admittedly, away from Pathfinder and more modern D&D's approach to enemies as something you either fight or run away from, and back towards almost a more old-school mentality where you can also fast-talk your way past enemies, but I personally don't think that's a bad thing. well, why not have a section on par with the Morale section that details what they want, and how the PCs can use that to negotiate with them and potentially redeem them? So, assuming that someone in the party is gonna max out Diplomacy and try to use it. As it is already, just about every NPC statblock with an actual name attached, and several that don't, have a Morale section that dictates whether they fight to the death or if they'll run away, and if so, when they'll run away. The Book of Exalted Deeds let's read thread has made me wonder if it would be possible for every named villain(and a few unnamed villains) to be explicitly redeemable as a default in the Adventure Paths. ![]()
